A visit to the hygiene therapist is an essential part of a regular oral hygiene routine. It can make all the difference to the appearance of your teeth and your smile – and safeguard your long-term dental health.
As part of your appointment, The Whyte House’s therapist will carry out a scale, clean and polish. This is a thorough dental clean to remove the tartar and plaque which, if left to build up, can lead to gum disease and tooth loss.
Unfortunately no amount of home brushing can fight plaque – a sticky, bacteria-packed film – or tartar, a chalky, calcium build-up, that acts on your teeth in much the same way as limescale inside a kettle. The only way to remove them is professionally and our therapist is specially trained to do so.
Specialised equipment is used during the four-stage procedure to remove deposits without harming the teeth. A deep debridement (the removal of plaque and tartar) is carried out using an ultrasonic scaler. An interdental peroxyl flush cleans between the teeth, before the hygienist gives the teeth a prophylaxic polish. Completing the process is interdental stain removal, which cleans away stains from red wine, coffee, tea and cigarettes.
A scale and clean will remove the plaque and tartar, while the polish will smooth your teeth, making it more difficult for bacteria to stick.
It’s also a simple, effective way to give your teeth and mouth a much-needed freshen-up – and it will give you a better chance of keeping on top of your at-home hygiene routine.
Remember, you don’t need to be registered with The Whyte House to see our hygiene therapist. Under Direct Access arrangements, anyone can make a hygiene appointment without seeing a dentist and without a prescription from the dentist.
